Norma has been my coach for sometime and so I know first hand that she has a true knack for helping others dig in and find their truest and most daring sides. The people she has gathered around her are all movers 'n' shakers with something to add to the world. Nothing new under the sun but a way of subtly nudging you towards a fuller truth that serves not just you but the world. As an artist I'm constantly analysing and looking for new ways of being, doing and knowing - anything that might be the change of paradigm that we need. In Norma Hollis I found a fellow traveller many steps ahead of my own path and so I gleefully soak up her tales from along the road. I sincerely hope you also find something here for yourself - fuel for the road ahead and inspiration for a better life. Deborah Claire Procter DETAILS:

Joyce van der Lely (Dutch artist and educator) has a wonderfully encouraging and infectious warmth to her which made it a pleasure to be interviewed by her for “All of You” - a series of conversations and explorations on how to include every fabulous thing that you have to offer, created for multi passionate women seeking harmony in life and work. This free event starts today / tomorrow as Joyce is in New Zealand so for many of us we are a day behind. She leads frequent facebook lives from her this cosy corner in her studio that is like a sanctuary. When I first chatted to Joyce in an interview to see if we thought we could work together there was one line of coincidence which was her memory of holidays in Wales, including to Aberystwyth and to that town with the name longer than the railway station. This mixed with my memories of a summer school with the amazing David Zambrano at the School for New Dance Development (now part of the Academy of Theatre and Dance, Amsterdam University of the Arts) when I was a student. Then what clinched it for me was the combination of our fluid conversation and the painting Joyce has in her office which was like a wild circle. It could have been an illustration for a short story of Borges. I love spirals and when she told me it was a work she'd made when figuring out her relationship to time, I was convinced. She has gathered really wild and whacky bunch of speakers who are from the fields of Mindset, Self-empowerment, Spirituality, Branding, Business/Careers, Creativity, Shamanism and more. With such a combination of Doodlers, Educators, Creative Directors, Feng Shui Consultants, Lifestyle Business Coaches, Poets, Transformational Coaches, Film-makers and much more, this event won't be for everyone yet for anyone exploring, re-examining their life choices and pondering what else there is to life, then there is sure to be at least one talk that will catalyse some unsung aspect or dormant desire into finding its feet. All of You - 16th Sept 2019 All of You is a week long online summit hosted by artist & coach Joyce van der Lely as a series of conversations and explorations on how to include every fabulous thing that you have to offer and created for multi passionate women seeking harmony in life and work Stolen Moments - Joyce van der Lely
A poem - I think some of you will love this one - it certainly made me laugh creativity coach and author Sam Bennett's homage to "Women Who Workshop." I think it is to all workshop junkies out there in praise of our unstoppable search for more or better. Guilty as found! Can you go to too many workshops? I don't think so. http://bit.ly/Samantha-Bennett-Women-Who-Workshop-poem Fill in this form below if you'd like to get Clear Insight Production's monthly newsletter.
I'm for ever fascinated where one foot in front of the other can lead. Yesterday I got an email from Adrienne Lloren, a young entrepreneur in Toronto who interviewed me this year for her online summit, "The Thriving Artist." In her email she mentioned one of her mentors, Jim Rohn. I'd never heard of him and curious to know where Adrianne gets her energy and inspiration I did a quick google search. Wikipedia told me that he had been a mentor for Tony Robbins. I was more curious. So I followed a link and watched a couple of videos in Youtube. His talks are about mindset, full of handy phrases and practical common sense. There was some useful information in talks titled "Focus on One Thing", and "How to Use Your Time Wisely." I was tidying up paperwork so listened as I sorted. As it does Youtube suggested some other videos. In the "coming next" box appeared videos from Dr Wayne Dyer - someone I had heard mentioned various times however I never had listened to any of his work. Youtube makes it easy for the curious. One video was called "On the Tao and A Million Little Pieces." I listened to various of the talks as I sorted paperwork and Dyer talked about living the "inspired life." Two things struck me. The first was that one of his chosen quotes was a quote from the British poet, print maker and visionary, William Blake that I have used many times in workshops and in my website, To see a world in a Grain of Sand, This quote always reminded me of what anthropologist Victor Turner talked about in "communitas" - the ability of culture to link people, and the power of art and culture can make you look and look again.
The second factor that surprised me was Dyer talking about 3.15am as one of those special times when you have more access to your quiet and true place. The Celtic Christians called it a "thin place" - where we are closer to that something else. Dyer quotes Rumi's saying, ""The breeze at dawn has special messages for you. Do not go back to sleep." You've guessed it, I woke up, got up to go to the loo, checked the time, and of course it was 3.15am. In the spirit of the coincidence I did my dues and took out a notebook and put down some thoughts. Each day is this sum of one foot in front of the other and the curiosity to find where my nose will lead me next. In the talk, Dyer mentions the book he is working on based on the Tao Te Ching to be called “Change The Way You Look At Life And The Life You're Living Changes.” I don't know if the book stayed with that title but whatever the title I'm sure that it was as fascinating as this talk about our thinking. New Year, New steps. Stay awake even just for the sake of a curiosity to see what might happen. I do not write to keep. I write to feel. I write to touch the body of the instant with the tips of the words. Hélène Cixous I love this quote and it explains to me why I need to have so many journals and notebooks around me! It reminds me of the distinction I learnt whilst studying drama at Exeter University which was heavily influenced by studio based practice and ensemble techniques, and where we were taught to constantly ask “Why theatre?” - in other words what does it do that another art form does not. Therefore, why do we say “playwright” and not “play-write”? ![]() It is as if a playwright (distinct from a play-write), is someone developing their work in a process that is as much a physical process (like a wheel-wright) as an intellectual one. These are questions that have led my continuous artistic search to the borders of different art forms (dance theatre, physical theatre, performance art, martial arts in relation to performance etc) including to most recently an exploration in the arena of opera and experimental music in collaborations with Argentinean composer Oscar Edelstein as both a vocalist and video maker. Edelstein's concept of "Acoustic Theatre" raises the question of sound in space. It is question that was explored in the early acoustic experiments of the cathedral builders and Venetian masters (think whispering galleries and cathedrals constructed to be apt for choirs), up to references of the to the 3D space of German composer Karlheinz Stockhausen whose piece "Gruppen" requiring three conductors and three orchestras was recently performed in the Turbine Gallery at Tate Modern by London Symphony Orchestra directed by Simon Rattle), passing through Gustav Mahler, Richard Wagner, Claude Debussy, Arnold Schönberg, Geörgy Ligetti and Luigi Nono. With Acoustic Theatre, Edelstein is collaborating with physicists in Argentina to create a new kind of space for the experiencing of sound. He is working in depth with Manuel Eguía (Physicist / Acoustic Researcher) who is an Associate Professor at the Universidad Nacional de Quilmes in Buenos Aires and a member of CONICET (National Science Council) whose background is in Complex Systems, Nonlinear Dynamics and Theoretical Neuroscience. Together they are working with Sonic Crystals in an novel approach to sound in space. There is a long history of composers working in an interdisciplinary contexts that border with art, architecture, theatre and dance. Equally, in recent years artists have taken up this idea of sound in space and begun experimenting with the borders of sound. So for me Hélène Cixous - professor, French feminist writer, poet, playwright, philosopher, literary critic and rhetorician - captures that implausible aspect of the process of putting into words, and the need to physicalise the out of reach. Her gift is to remind us of deeper parts of ourselves as she eludes to that special finding of what is not there - that just because. N.B. Cixous is best known for her article '' The Laugh of the Medusa.'' Copyright © Deborah Claire Procter 2018 Clear Insight Productions, All rights reserved.
![]() Answer - the art of copywriting. You know when you stumble across something that is really basic but makes perfect sense. I figured out a while ago about the importance of re-looking at communicating on the arts from getting really bored by the copywriting sent out by much of the classical music industry and un-subscribing from an emailing list. Alongside this, my fascination with how to attract audiences to "new" work or "contemporary" material when these have become dirty words makes me super keen to learn more about the art and craft of writing that moves. Long time back I discovered Seth Godin's inspiring thoughts on how to create ideas that circulate, and he continues to be one of the most important voices in the field whose daily email I relish. But this week I made another unexpected leap forward by receiving information from writer's coach Shelley Hitz about an online copywriting summit with some of the best of the best. I love to hear it from the horses mouth so I was thrilled. The summit is led by Ray Edwards who is most famous for being able to combine faith and ethics in writing sales copy that is authentic and isn't too pushy or salesy. He is known as the man who has created money-getting copy for business leaders like Tony Robbins, Jack Canfield, Jeff Walker, and Stu McLaren. Plus he has a really impressive list of New York Times best-selling authors, entrepreneurs, and achievers. What's more, he is a really enthusiastic and generous guy who has gathered 30 of the best copywriters on the planet to teach you their freshest insights, tools, and techniques… All at no charge. What is also wonderful is that the interviews are are not “pitch interviews” – far from it! It is all really valuable material and great conversations that take advantage of Ray Edwards years in radio.
Having listened to the first six days of the summit I've just added a book to my reading list after hearing the talk by the author and star of copywriting and marketing, Jay Abraham. Having listened to the first six days of the summit I've just added a book to my reading list after hearing the talk by the author and star of copywriting and marketing, Jay Abraham. Abraham's book is called The CEO Who Sees Around Corners. It is all about hindsight, insight and foresight - my cup of tea! The blurb on Amazon says; "Jay Abraham and Carlos Dias wrote this book for CEOs and senior executives who want to lead their organizations onto a better path for success in a fast-moving, turbulent world. The CEO Who Sees Around Corners introduces the powerful theories, mental models, and proven processes you need to reset your business to succeed in non-linear times." Abraham talks in the interview with Ray Edwards about how to be pre-eminent in your field by finding out what's driving your heart and soul, and of the power of making small progressive movements. Ray Edwards has given a huge gift with these interviews that are so packed with insights so it is well worth jumping in immediately. If you know very little about copywriting - like I did - but love writing, and know how powerful a skill it is to be able to reach new audiences, and bring big crowds to your events and your business, then I strongly recommend this as both a starting point / crash course. Just by listening, I feel that I have upped my game as a communicator - in fact I feel a bit more nervous writing today because I recognise even more the power and the beauty of words. How else would I have heard about names like Ben Settle, David Garfinkel, John Carlton, Kevin Rogers, Brian Kurtz, Bond Halbert, Pauline Longdon and many many more. In the arts there can sometimes be a suspicion that advertising smacks of manipulation. However when it means reaching out to one more person who can benefit from access to the arts, then I feel it is an essential skill to develop and develop and develop and develop....

We search for a horizontals that seems it will take us forever to re-find. In this light whilst leafing through old journals I found an inspiring quote from the determined British film-maker Terry Gilliam who has seen his fair share of up and downs, and the twists of outrageous fortune. Read it to take your mind back to its creative problem solving centre... As a child, I always drew funny creatures, funny characters. But I think the trick is not to grow up, not to learn to be an adult. And if you can maintain the kind of imagination you all had when you were babies, you would all be wonderful filmmakers. But the world tries to make you grow up, to stop imagining, stop fantasizing, stop playing in your mind. And I’ve worked hard to not let the world educate me.
